Bridge Work

What Are Dental Bridges?

A dental bridge is a restoration that is designed to replace one or more missing teeth. Using one custom-made restoration, we can place the bridge over the surrounding teeth to replace the area that is lacking dentition. Bridges are made to feel and look like real teeth. They can last for many years, providing you with a full and healthy-looking smile.

Why Would Dental Bridges Be Needed?

The reason you might need a dental bridge is because you’re missing a natural tooth. Bridges are ideal for patients who either don’t want or cannot have a dental implant placed. They attach to surrounding teeth, with the middle portion of the bridge replacing the missing tooth. Bridges offer both cosmetic as well as functional benefits to those who are currently missing teeth.

Who Is A Candidate For Dental Bridges?

To determine if a dental bridge is right for you, we’ll examine your teeth, gums and mouth. The bridge needs to have two healthy and solid teeth to attach to, so this is a factor we’ll consider when examining your teeth. Bridges are ideal for patients who cannot or do not want implants. If you have an older bridge showing signs of wear, we can remove and then replace it in our office.

What Happens During The Dental Bridge Procedure?

The dental bridge procedure will begin with anesthetic. This is used to numb a specific area of the mouth. We file down and shape the surrounding teeth so that the bridge sits easily on top of them. We take impressions and then make the new bridge that’s meant just for your smile. You will come back in for a second appointment so that the permanent bridge can be placed. Your new bridge can be brushed and flossed around comfortably to keep it looking its best. Most bridges can last for years before they begin to show signs of wear.
